Blackberries and raspberries are members of the rose family. Blackberries do not have a pit- instead they have tiny seeds. Berries are high in antioxidants that may reduce the risk of cancer and some diseases.
In California, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries are in peak season in late spring and summer.

Chuy Berry Farms grows berries year-round in San Luis Obispo County. This is done by using greenhouses, which keeps the air around the plants the ideal temperature of 80-85 degrees. Besides blackberries, Chuy Berry Farms also grows strawberries, blueberries and raspberries on 8 acres.
The Harvest of the Month and Farmer of the Month profiles are developed in partnership with Ventura County Farm to School.
